DR. EMANUELE FANTINI

Emanuele Fantini is a political scientist specialised in development studies. His research focuses on the political and moral economy of water governance, the process of state formation in Africa, the role of ICT and media in the processes of development and state formation in Sub-Sahara Africa. Emanuele has more than 10 years’ experience in international development cooperation, working for Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, multilateral institutions (UN Habitat), local authorities and NGOs, in Africa, the Balkans and Myanmar. He is the scientific coordinator for the current project.

PROF. ANDREA PASE

Andrea Pase is a Professor of Geography at the University of Padua, where he currently holds a course in Historical Geography. His past work has been focused on state border building and colonial structure in Africa. He is currently involved with the study of territorial dynamics activated by construction and management of big development projects. Together with M. Bertoncin, he published Attorno al lago Ciad. Sguardi diversi sullo sviluppo (Torino, l'Harmattan Italia, 2008) and he co-edited of Territorialità e Pre-visioni di territorio (Milano, Franco Angeli, 2007 e 2008).

DR. CARLO SEMITA

Carlo Semita got a PhD in Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Università di Torino. Since 2005 he has been appointed as Technical Consultant and Project Manager in different cooperation development projects in Niger, Burkina Faso, Benin, Senegal, Chad, Central African Republic and Mauritania financed by the Piedmont Region (Italy), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, EU programs and other donors. He is currently  working as coordinator in rural development projects for the NGO Movimento Africa '70 in Niger and as project manager for the University of Turin - CISAO (Interdepartmental Centre of Research and Technical and Scientific Cooperation with Africa).

DR. ALESSIO IOCCHI

Alessio Iocchi holds a PhD graduated in “Studies of Africa, Asia and Mediterranean countries” in Naples University “Orientale”, is currently Senior Research Fellow at Norwegian Institute for International Affairs and collaborator for ISPI-Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale, where he published several articles with a special focus on relationship between informal economy, terrorism and the State in Africa, notably in the Lake Chad Basin region and the Sahel. He has carried out a fieldwork research with the NGO Nexus, based in Bologna, around the issues of migrants’ labour in Niamey and Agadez.
