The conference “Between prosperity and exploitation: mines, warlords and human rights in the Great Lakes area” will take place on Tuesday, November the 14th at 5 p.m., in ARTeficIO, 18L via Bligny in Turin. During the event, we will meet doctor Denis Mukwege, known as “the man who fixes women”. He was awarded with the Sakharov Prize 2014 for founding Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo, and for his commitment in helping more than 40.000 women victims of sexual violence during the past 14 years.
The conference will be introduced and moderated by Federica VAIRO, CSA collaborator. Luca JOURDAN (professor of Cultural Anthropology and Political Anthropology at the University of Bologna) and Luigi ARNALDI DI BALME (researcher and expert in mining issues) will partecipate to the debate, and finally, dr. Mukwege will conclude the meeting.
Before the conference dr. Mukwege will visit the photo exposition “The Victims of our wealth”, set up in the Showroom, which will be open to the public until the 19th November. This exposition deals with two critical issues in the African continent: coltan mines in Kivu region in Democratic Republic of the Congo and pollutant electronic waste in Ghana. https://www.facebook.com/events/1938049776469454/
